Claverton College

Clinical exposure

Clinical training across all four years

Claverton students observe, assist and then manage supervised cases across all four years — culminating in a full-time clinical internship.

Why it matters

Employers in this profession hire on clinical hours and case exposure. A graduate who has managed supervised cases across four years enters the job market with a documented clinical log.

The training model

Four stages, in sequence

Clinical responsibility increases as assessed competence increases.

01

Observe

Students watch practising clinicians assess, reason and counsel before they carry out an assessment themselves.

02

Assist

Under supervision, students assist with diagnostics and therapy sessions and become familiar with real case-loads.

03

Practise

Students progressively take on supervised assessment and management of their own cases, with structured feedback.

04

Internship

A full-time clinical year consolidates skill across the college clinics and partner sites.

The need

Why the programme requires clinical hours

RCI-aligned curricula pair theory with supervised practicum from the early semesters, and BASLP culminates in a full year of clinical work. That structure is not a Claverton preference — it is how the qualification is designed.

Clinic and practice laboratories

Two separate places: one takes patients, one does not

The Rehabilitation Council of India requires both, and they do different jobs. The clinic sees members of the public. The practice laboratories are replicas of those clinical rooms, with the same instruments, where students learn the equipment and the test procedures first.

The clinic

Run by the Aashirwad Foundation of India Trust on the same site, and open to the public. Their cases, with consent and under supervision, are what students learn on.

The practice laboratories

Replicas of the clinical rooms, equipped the same way. Students learn the machines and the test procedures here. No patients are seen in them.

Step-free throughout

The site and the clinic are disability-access friendly.

A student meets the equipment before they meet a patient. The sequence is deliberate and it is the reason the two sets of rooms exist separately: practise the procedure in the laboratory, then carry it out in the clinic under a supervisor.

Coming to the clinic as a patient

The clinic is run by the Aashirwad Foundation of India Trust and is open to the public. The services offered, the charges and how to book an appointment are published here once confirmed.

To be announced

Where students train

The clinic, and the sites beyond it

Diagnostic audiology labs

Sound-treated rooms and audiological instrumentation for hands-on diagnostic training.

Speech & language therapy rooms

Calm, dedicated therapy spaces designed for one-to-one and paediatric sessions.

The clinic

A working clinic on the same site, run by the Aashirwad Foundation of India Trust and open to the public. Students observe and, from the second semester, assist there under direct supervision. Step-free throughout.

Clinical partners

Hospitals, ENT departments, implant centres and rehabilitation units where students complete postings and internship.

To be announced

Case exposure

The clinical population must be at least two patients per student per semester in each major area of study — child and adult language disorders, fluency, voice, speech sound disorders, dysphagia, hearing impairment, and hearing-related and vestibular disorders.

That is the floor set by the regulator. The number of cases a student actually handles is the most meaningful measure of a clinical programme, and worth asking any college for directly.

To be announced

The final year

A full year of supervised clinical work

The internship is mandatory: one academic year of ten months, split across semesters 7 and 8, beginning once a student has completed academic and clinical training up to the sixth semester.

Two rules govern this year. Students must spend at least one semester at an institute outside their own college, and every posting must be at an institution approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India. A graduate therefore leaves with supervised hours logged across more than one organisation.

Duration
One academic year — ten months, spanning semesters 7 and 8
Hours
600 supervised hours in speech-language pathology and 600 in audiology
External posting
At least one semester must be spent at an institute outside the parent institution

Campus visits

Visit the clinics before deciding

A campus visit shows more of a clinical programme than any brochure can.
