Overview

What this degree qualifies graduates to do

BASLP is the qualifying degree for two clinical professions — audiology and speech-language pathology. Graduates assess and treat hearing, speech, language, voice and swallowing difficulties across every stage of life, from newborn hearing screening to rehabilitation after a stroke.

BASLP is a clinical degree, not a theory course. For three years students learn the science of how hearing works, the physics of sound, how children pick up language and how the brain produces speech. From the second semester they learn it alongside real patients in supervised clinics. The fourth year is a full-time internship.

A graduate who registers with the Rehabilitation Council of India may practise as an audiologist, a speech-language pathologist, or both.

Well suited to students who

  • Want to treat patients rather than work at a desk
  • Want a healthcare career, but not MBBS or BDS
  • Are patient, observant and good with people
  • Are interested in how hearing, language and the brain work

Less suited to students who

  • Want a classroom-only degree with no patient contact
  • Prefer short appointments to hour-long one-to-one sessions with the same patient
  • Want a short course. The programme runs four years

Why BASLP

Six reasons students pick BASLP over a general healthcare degree

A licensed, protected profession

Audiology and speech-language pathology are regulated in India. Only registered professionals may practise, which limits who can compete for the work graduates are trained to do.

Demand far exceeds supply

Roughly 63 million Indians live with significant hearing impairment. The registered professional workforce numbers in the thousands, not the lakhs.

Real clinical work from year one

Students are in clinics from the early semesters, observing, then assisting, then managing their own supervised cases.

Eight kinds of employer

Hospitals, clinics, schools, implant centres, device manufacturers, rehabilitation units, research institutions and independent practice.

A genuine route to private practice

Independent clinical practice is common and achievable in this profession. Most healthcare degrees do not open that path so directly.

Internationally portable skills

The clinical protocols are internationally shared, which supports postgraduate study and clinical routes abroad, subject to each country's licensing.

The full case for this profession

What students learn

What graduates can do on day one of the job

Not subjects. Skills. The things an employer expects in the first week.

  • Assess hearing across the lifespan using clinical audiometry and objective diagnostic tests
  • Select, fit and fine-tune hearing aids, and support cochlear implant users through mapping and rehabilitation
  • Identify and treat speech, language, fluency, voice and swallowing disorders in children and adults
  • Plan and deliver early intervention for children with delayed speech and language development
  • Support communication recovery after stroke, head injury and neurological illness
  • Counsel patients and families, and work alongside ENT surgeons, paediatricians, neurologists and teachers

The two roles

One degree, two professions. Pick one, or practise both

The degree covers both professions for all four years. Students usually form a preference during clinical postings in year two or three.

The hearing specialist

Audiologist

Audiologists diagnose and manage hearing and balance disorders across the lifespan.

What the work involves

  • Screen newborn hearing before a baby leaves hospital
  • Measure hearing with standard tests, including pure-tone audiometry, which finds the softest sound a person can hear at each pitch, and tympanometry, which checks how the eardrum and middle ear are working
  • Select, fit and program hearing aids for children, adults and older adults
  • Run advanced diagnostic tests, including otoacoustic emissions (OAE) and brainstem evoked response audiometry (BERA), which assess hearing without needing a response from the patient
  • Assess candidates for cochlear implants and program the device after surgery
  • Assess dizziness and balance disorders through vestibular testing
  • Run hearing-conservation programmes in noisy industrial workplaces

Who clinicians treat

Patients at every stage of life

Hearing and speech problems do not belong to one age group, so a career in the field never depends on one either.

Newborn
Day 1 – 6 months

Every baby’s hearing is checked before going home. The audiologist runs that check, and explains the result to the parents.

  • Newborn hearing screening
  • Early diagnostic testing
  • Counselling for parents
  • Referral for early intervention
Childhood
1 – 12 years

The years in which speech and language develop. Disorders identified at this stage respond best to early intervention.

  • Delayed speech and language
  • Autism and developmental disorders
  • Hearing aids and cochlear implants
  • Auditory-verbal therapy
  • School and learning support
Adolescent & adult
13 – 59 years

Adults present with fluency disorders, voice disorders and hearing loss caused by noise exposure.

  • Stammering and fluency therapy
  • Voice disorders and voice care
  • Noise-induced hearing loss
  • Balance and dizziness
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
Older adults
60 years and beyond

After a stroke, speech and swallowing come back slowly, and only with expert help. The fastest-growing part of the field.

  • Age-related hearing loss
  • Hearing aid fitting and follow-up
  • Aphasia after stroke
  • Swallowing (dysphagia) management
  • Cognitive-communication support

Clinical exposure

From watching a consultation to running one

Clinical teaching is done case by case, under supervision. These four stages run across all four years, not just the internship.

How clinical training is structured

01

Observe

Students watch practising clinicians assess, reason and counsel before they carry out an assessment themselves.

02

Assist

Under supervision, students assist with diagnostics and therapy sessions and become familiar with real case-loads.

03

Practise

Students progressively take on supervised assessment and management of their own cases, with structured feedback.

04

Internship

A full-time clinical year consolidates skill across the college clinics and partner sites.

Clinical partners

Hospitals, implant centres and clinics where students complete postings and the final-year internship.

To be announced

Labs & facilities

The rooms students train in

Audiology cannot be taught without sound-treated rooms and calibrated instruments. This is the RCI specification every recognised college must meet.

Diagnostic audiology labs

Sound-treated rooms and audiological instrumentation for hands-on diagnostic training.

Speech & language therapy rooms

Calm, dedicated therapy spaces designed for one-to-one and paediatric sessions.

The clinic

A working clinic on the same site, run by the Aashirwad Foundation of India Trust and open to the public. Students observe and, from the second semester, assist there under direct supervision. Step-free throughout.

Equipment inventory

Prospective students and parents frequently ask which diagnostic instruments the college owns.

Questions

Questions about BASLP

Anything not answered here can be put to the admissions office by phone.

Can I transfer in from another BASLP college, or join in the second year?

No. Claverton does not offer lateral entry and does not transfer credit from another college or programme. A student who has studied elsewhere is welcome to apply, but is assessed as a fresh applicant: Class 12 board marks from CBSE or ICSE, an AHEE score, and a place on the same merit list as everyone else.

What is BASLP, in one sentence?

BASLP, formally the Bachelor in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, short form B.ASLP, is a four-year, 160-credit clinical degree regulated by the Rehabilitation Council of India. It qualifies a graduate to work as an audiologist (hearing and balance) or a speech-language pathologist (speech, language, voice and swallowing).

Who can apply?

Anyone who has passed Class 12 from CBSE or ICSE with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, or Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and 50% or more. State boards, NIOS, IB and Cambridge are not accepted. Gap years are accepted and there is no age bar. AHEE is compulsory, and is registered at aheetest.in. Students appearing for Class 12 this year can apply, and upload the mark sheet before counselling.

Is NEET required?

No. BASLP is an allied-health degree, not a medical (MBBS) degree, and NEET does not apply. Admission is on merit: 50% of the admission rank comes from Class 12 marks and 50% from the score in AHEE, the Allied Healthcare Entrance Exam.

What is AHEE?

AHEE, the Allied Healthcare Entrance Exam, is an online entrance test with its own website, aheetest.in, run independently of the college. Registration is open from 1 October to 30 May every year; the exam is in mid-June, with two reattempts in July, and the best score counts. The exam fee is ₹2,000, paid to AHEE. The paper, the dates, the admit card and the results are all at aheetest.in, and it is from the AHEE account there that a candidate applies to Claverton.

Is there a quota or reservation?

No. Every seat is filled on merit. There is no management quota, no NRI quota and no reserved category.

What does it cost to apply?

The AHEE exam fee is ₹2,000, paid to AHEE at aheetest.in. The Claverton application itself is free, and can be made as soon as the AHEE registration is complete.

What is the refund policy if a student withdraws?

Refunds follow the University Grants Commission’s fee refund policy in force for the session: a full refund for withdrawal before the UGC cut-off date, a sliding scale after it, refunds made within fifteen days of the request, and no original certificates retained by the college. The exact dates for the session are published on the Fees page with the fee schedule.

Is BASLP a medical degree?

It is not MBBS, but it is a clinical healthcare degree. BASLP graduates work in hospitals and clinics, assess and treat patients, and must be registered with the Rehabilitation Council of India in order to practise — the same regulatory principle that governs other healthcare professions. After a master’s, graduates can go on to a Ph.D.

Is the programme recognised?

Yes. B.ASLP at Claverton is recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India and affiliated to Dr. Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University, Lucknow, which awards the degree. The curriculum is the RCI framework effective from 2024-25, the same national curriculum every recognised programme teaches. Copies of the recognition letter and the affiliation order are being added to the Approvals page; ask for them in writing at any college, including this one.

Does Claverton offer any other programme?

BASLP is Claverton’s first programme. The college is built for allied healthcare, and today every lab, clinic, teacher and timetable exists for this one degree.

When does clinical training begin?

Clinical exposure begins in the early semesters through structured observation, progresses to supervised assisting and independent supervised practice, and culminates in a full-year internship in the fourth year.

What do graduates do after BASLP?

Graduates work as audiologists and speech-language pathologists across hospitals, clinics, special schools, early-intervention centres, the hearing-technology industry, research and independent practice. Many also go on to a master’s degree in audiology or speech-language pathology.

How do I apply?

Register for AHEE at aheetest.in between 1 October 2026 and 30 May 2027; the admit card is issued on the spot. Then, from the AHEE account, upload the documents and share them, with the AHEE score, with Claverton College, between 30 April 2027 and 30 July 2027. The application is free. The merit list follows, counselling begins on campus in Greater Noida on 7 August 2027, and the session starts in the third week of August.
